World mission is one of our key values at Holland Road.
Our three priorities:
The poorest of the poor
We seek to serve and empower those in financial, spiritual or relational poverty.
We support the work of Strong Hearts in Ethiopia through regular visits and financial gifts. Strong Hearts works in one of the poorest areas of Addis Ababa near the city dump.
God is doing amazing things there, and we have been privileged to be a part of it both through visits and through long-distance partnership.
There is a particular community of Dalits ('untouchables') in India, rejected by most of their society and living in giant concrete pipes. Over the years we’ve been able to provide money and resources for a school and also give to a local church there through OM UK.
These are among the poorest people in the world and it’s been our privilege to support a variety of work that provides dignity and an avenue to freedom through education, healthcare and economic empowerment.
We have had a long term partnership with United Christian Fellowship in Sri Lanka, run by Brother Ranjan. UCF pioneers new churches, as well as providing free medical clinics and food aid to remote villages.
And we support the Summerton family, based in Scotland, and working with YWAM in the area of climate change, something that seems to affect the poorest of the poor disproportionately.
Place where there is no church
We have partnerships in certain places in North Africa and the Horn of Africa where there is literally no church. We offer financial and prayer support to people seeking to live their lives there showing God's love to those around them.
We recognise that even in countries with many church buildings there is increasingly a lack of a ‘living church’ that represents the kindness and compassion of Jesus to those nearby. And so we support and pray for two young families in particular.
The Cutting family are living and reaching out to those around them in the Versailles area of France, and the Riggs are based in the Rhonda Valley in South Wales.
Our partners Mike and Nelia Leal work with OM in Brazil training and equipping Latin American believers to go to the ends of the earth sharing the love of Jesus where He is least known.
We also support Middle East Media.
The persecuted church
We support and pray for our Christian family in places where it’s dangerous to be a believer.
Praying for Christians facing persecution and supporting them through organisations such as Open Doors.
How is it funded?
As a church we are committed to giving away at least 25% of our income to work beyond ourselves, including many of the people and places mentioned above. We have gift days twice a year, which are opportunities for our members to give above and beyond our normal giving. One of these is given over completely to world mission every May.
To find out more about world missions at Holland Road or how you can get involved, speak to any of the world missions team, led by Jen Cottingham and David Treneer, or contact us.
If you feel God is calling you into missions but finances might be an issue, we have a mission bursary fund available.
