Our leadership team is made up of Elders and a team of Deacons. Some of these are also staff who work alongside many wonderful volunteers involved in every area of church life. Without these volunteers we would be unable to function!
David was appointed by the church to be an elder and senior pastor in May 2007. He first became a member of Holland Road in 1998 when he was working nearby as a consultant engineer and was invited to join the staff in 2002 as an Assistant Pastor. David grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of a missionary family and has a strong connection with all things African!
David is passionate about teaching God’s Word, about a life filled with the Spirit and reaching out to those both in our local community and around the world. He has a Masters from Spurgeon’s College in Applied Theology and lives locally with his family; wife Laura, daughters Lila and Amy and son Jonah.
Tim started coming to Holland Road in 1997 as a student from Sussex University where he also met his wife Laura – they now have two children.
Tim has been on staff since 2003. He is an elder and part of the core leadership team. Tim leads our fantastic worship team and helps to oversee the preaching and Sunday gatherings. Tim loves all things associated with the sea especially windsurfing.
Sean grew up in Brighton and first came to Holland Road in 1993. In 2008 Sean followed God’s call to sell his business and join the staff at Holland Road.
He is an elder and part of the core leadership team, overseeing marriage, pastoral care and our Restore ministry. Sean is married to Ali and has three children.
John is married to Lisa and they have two children. He first came to Holland Road in 1989 and he is now an elder of the church. He volunteers for the church on Tuesdays and is part of the core leadership team. In his day job the rest of the week, he designs computer systems and similarly at church, has oversight for all things technical. In his spare time John likes running and watching Star Trek.
After two years on Transform, Jonny joined the staff team in September 2010. He is now an elder and is part of the core leadership team and holds responsibility for all our communications, missional communities, the Transform training programme and Alpha. Together with Laura they lead a missional community.
Jonny and Laura live in East Brighton with their daughters Jemima, Cleo and Juniper and share a passion for Jesus and for discipling students and young adults.
Mike is an elder of the church and involved with our children’s work, where he serves alongside his wife Sarah. Mike has three grown up children and lives in Portslade.
Phillip joined Holland Road in 1990. He is an elder of the church and is part of the world missions team, coordinating our global partners and is involved with local evangelism. Phillip is married to Wadia, has three grown up children and lives in Hove.
Adam is an elder and trustee of the church. He is married to Rosie and lives in Hangleton; they have four children.
Grahame joined the church in December 1963 and married Margaret in September, 1962. They have a son and a daughter, both married and involved in Christian ministry. Their son has two daughters and a son, and their daughter has two sons. Grahame is a member of the Prayer Team, World Mission Team and leads the Rothbury small group. Outside of church he is interested in gardening.
Matt joined Holland Road in 2007. He is an elder and during the week, works as the Site Manager for a local school. Matt, his wife Charlotte and three children; Milo, Barnabas and Angelina live in Portslade.
Jen came to Holland Road in 2002 after moving to Hove. She was a pioneer of our intern program in 2008 and has since taught kindergarteners at one of our global partners, Bingham Academy in Ethiopia for 4 years as a SIM missionary.
Katie joined Holland Road as a Sussex student in 2008, before doing two years on Transform and eventually joining the staff team in August 2013. She is responsible for Encounter and the student work, and is also part of the band and the communications team.
Katie is married to Jason and have one daughter, Tabitha. They lead a missional community and are passionate about worshipping God through music; their house is full of instruments! Katie’s favourite room is their kitchen, where she loves to cook and feed people.
Amanda has been coming along to Holland Road since 2003. In that same year she also graduated University with a BA in Communications/PR, got married to her British husband, and moved to the UK from the USA (where she was born and raised)!
She and her husband, Paul, live in Hangleton. They also run a busy household – with three children, two cats, two guinea pigs, a dog and a fish!
Amanda has a passion for working with children, and has been involved with the Children’s Ministry at Holland Road since 2004. She is currently responsible for Discoverers, The Hub and other children’s activities that happen throughout the year.
Helen has been part of Holland Road for 17 years. She spent many years serving as part of our Tadpoles team and is now works part-time coordinating the church’s finances as well as leading our Night Shelter with her husband Brian. She lives locally in Hove and has four sons.
Steve moved to Brighton in 1981 and first came to Holland Road in 2004. In 2016, after 34 years in Financial Services Steve followed God’s call and joined the staff at Holland Road. He is a trustee and a missional community leader, as well as managing the staffing and administration of the church.
Steve is married to Kim who is the Senior Information and Research Officer at the Evangelical Alliance. They live in Portslade with their daughter Lizzie. Steve loves all things football related and living in Brighton, is of course a Manchester United fan.
Helen has been part of the Holland Road church family since moving here in 2007. She has worked with children and young people in a variety of jobs since graduating as a teacher in 1998.
She loves watching children learn new things and discover God for themselves. She lives in Portslade with her two children and enjoys making things.
Our Trustees, who oversee the financial and legal management of the church, are David Treneer, John Elbourne, Simon Whitfield, Sean Avard, Andrei Pop, Graham Rogerson, Steve Walker, Debbie Collins, Tressa Kong and Laura Lurcock.
